Jimmy John Liautaud, left, visits with Mike Melvin of Urbana after speaking at new morning business speaker series at Champaign Public Library on Thursday May 3, 2018.

Jimmy John Liautaud stopped by his hometown library, Champaign Public Library, to talk to local community members about how to start and grow a business. His talk was a part of a new series of events called Launch at the Library. Jimmy received many questions from entrepreneurs asking about the hardships he faced throughout the years and advice on how to make it through those tough times. He opened up, admitting he had thought about quitting many times. Jimmy’s advice: Work hard. Push forward. Learn from mistakes.

After the event, Jimmy said, “If I touched one person’s soul today — if I said, ‘Look, know your numbers, outwork your competition, understand your product, there’s no right answer, it’s scary, it’s lonely, you got to risk it to get the biscuit,’ all the things I talked about today — if I hit one of those kids today and they went home with a nugget that changes their life … that’s why I’m here.”
